Talking vegetables? Characters coming to life in a mobile phone? Who would have thought of such a thing? Fourteen amazingly clever, creative and ingenious Optiminds students, that’s who!

Groups had to brainstorm ideas and come up with a story line and write a play to solve their challenge. They then had to create their own costumes and props from sustainable materials and practice their lines over seven weeks. Students were entirely responsible for organising, creating, scheduling and interpreting the challenge with as little input as possible from adult assistance.

Teams travelled to the University of Queensland Gatton campus for the Optiminds challenge day where students from all over the Darling Downs from both Primary and Secondary schools met for the event. The atmosphere on the campus was amazing with so many positive, happy children and their parents enjoying the incredible weather, popcorn, pizza and even a free jumping castle!

The Spontaneous Challenge; a highly secretive, sight unseen, ten minute on the spot challenge; was up first. The groups then split in the afternoon to perform their long term challenge in various places around the campus.

We are incredibly proud of the effort, tenacity and creativity these students showed. They overcame nerves and shyness and worked together to support each other and grow from this experience. Well done Optiminders! You did South proud!
