KidsMatter Primary

At the end of 2016 a new initiative, known as ‘KidsMatter Primary' was introduced at Dalby South State School.
KidsMatter is a mental health and wellbeing framework that helps schools to focus on the development of all of their students in partnership with their families. The framework was developed by mental health and education experts and has already made a big difference to the lives of Australian children.
KidsMatter can help improve:
  • the mental health and well being of students
  • the quality of their school work and their academic results
  • the ability of parents, carers and school staff to help children deal with problems
Our first step at Dalby South was to form an ‘Action Team’, who now co-ordinate and lead the implementation of this exciting initiative.  One of the aims of the team is to share information with the school community about how we can further understand children’s mental health and provide the most appropriate support to meet their needs.
The staff at Dalby South have participated in the Component One training. Component One in the KidsMatter framework involves embedding the practices of a ‘Positive School Community’. During 2017 the plan is to proceed with Component Two of KidsMatter and embed ‘Social and Emotional Learning’ into our school curriculum.
