Instrumental Music Program

Dalby South has an active and vibrant Instrumental Music Program with two large school bands and from time to time smaller ensembles. Lessons are given weekly during school time to selected students in Years Four to Six in the areas of brass, woodwind and percussion instruments.

Students are selected for the program through a musical aptitude test together with the interest shown in learning an instrument. The school owns and rents a number of instruments that are loaned to selected students for their first year of tuition. Children may also participate using their own instrument if they meet the selection criteria.

Students participating in the Instrumental Music Program are expected to be a member of a concert band being either Junior or Senior Concert Bands. Band practice is generally before school  on one day per week. Parents and band members will be notified of these times and the beginning of the year and to any changes that occur throughout the year.

The Instrumental Music students perform at various school functions including the ANZAC Day Ceremony, Performing Arts Night and the Christmas Bash as well as our weekly Parade. Both bands perform at the Dalby Eisteddfod each year where Dalby South State School instrumentalists have also had great success in their small group and solo entries. The Senior Concert Band also participates in the Dalby Show, Fanfare, TYME Festival, Dalby Christmas Parade and other eisteddfods as possible.

Please note that there is a cost for this program to cover the cost of music and some transport to and from performance venues. This cost will be advised at the end of each year for the next year via letter to parents of students involved or considering involvement in the program and via our Audiri app.  Advice on recruitment times and procedures is published in the school newsletter and through our Audiri app during the beginning of Term Four.

At times, District Music Camps become available for the Instrumental Music students. Depending on their performance level the students may be offered the opportunity to attend these Camps. For further enquiries about the program, please contact our Instrumental Music teacher through our school office or via email at: instrumental@dalbsoutss.eq.edu.au
